The process of panning for gold shares many similarities to editing / rewriting.

Gold panning involves a number of steps with the first being the use of classifier / sifter screens to separate gold from dirt, gravel and other materials, though during this process you can also find gemstones. Of course, there's more to the process, though it's a lot of repetition with the end goal finding gold.
